Embattled Vahun District Commissioner Mohammed Momoh has accused Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf of undermining the CDC government and planting seed of division in Vahun District.

Momoh speaking on a local Radio in Monrovia Monday January 31, 2022, among other things accused Minister Sirleaf of unilaterally and illegally suspending and replacing him with Lofa County Reliving Commissioner Forkpa Jallah an act he said has since angered the people of Vahun district.

On January 22, 2020 Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf with immediate effect withdrew Mr. Mohammed B. Momo, as Commissioner Vahun District, Lofa County, and directed him to immediately report to Monrovia.

A press release issued by the Internal Affairs Ministry said Minister Varney Sirleaf’s decision was in consultation with the Executive Mansion.

According to the release, the Minister’s decision to withdraw the Vahun Commissioner was triggered by reports linking him to alleged violent acts in the district.

The Minister than asked Lofa County Relieving Commissioner Mr. Forpka Jallah to act as Commissioner, under the supervision of Lofa County Superintendent William Tamba Kamba, pending full investigation into matter.

It is two years now since Momo got suspended and Vahun Commissioner who is still legitimate commissioner according to law believes that the reason provided by Minister Sirleaf in the release for his suspension lacks any bit of truth.

Momo indicated that he was a victim of the violence in question as his home was attack by people holding machetes and guns and it was saddened for the Minister to punish a victim like him of the incident.

The embattled Vahun district Commissioner wonders why it has taken two years for Minister Sirleaf to investigate the violence he used as reason to illegally suspend him.

Political reason

Commissioner Mohammed Momo indicated that contrary to Minister Sirleaf assertion that his illegal suspension was at a result of his involvement in violence acts, the Minister action against him was triggered by his refusal to support the Minister’s wife, Lofa County District Four Representative Mariam Beyan Fofana in the 2020 midterm Senatorial election.

“The Minister met me and told me to support his third Wife Representative Fofana and I told him no I can’t because our part already had a candidate in the race which was former senator George Tengbeh” he told the local platform.

Momo noted that the Minister started having issue with him since he informed the Minister that he could not support his wife in the midterm election, and the January, 2020 violence in Vahun only presented an opportunity for Mr. Sirleaf to implement his long designed plan.

He also accused the Internal Affairs Minister of freezing the district SIB account which has stalled development in the district.

Momo who is die-hard supporter of the Coalition for Democratic Change mentioned that Minister Sirleaf was undermining the effort of the Party in Vahun by attacking a popular and love son of the district like him.

He noted that when he and others young people were campaigning for the CDC Minister Sirleaf and others were canvasing for former Unity Party Joseph Boakai and express frustration that those who were once against them are the one deciding their fate.

Momo Vowed that he remains the legitimate commissioner of Vahun district until he receives a communication from the President who appointed him confirming his suspension.
